Hingham AnchorMeet the maker
The first story about us: the Hingham Anchor, December 2023
The studio had only just opened when the Hingham Anchor walked in. The piece is the best telling of how a footwear designer from India ended up painting sneakers with families in Hingham.

Shoes, from the start
As a child in India she made dresses for her dolls and decorated her own shoes. At nineteen she was working at Reebok. Her father pushed her to train properly, so at twenty she went to Milan, then took a master's in design at the University of Northampton, the English town known for making shoes.

Then Hingham
During the pandemic she and her husband Sumit moved to Hingham and started the Sneaker Bar. The Anchor described the room the way it still looks: white walls, a black ceiling, lights strung across it, pop art flowers and every kind of paint and material out where anyone can reach it.

What she wanted it to be
A place for whole families, from babies to grandparents, where the point is making something together rather than getting it perfect. Even in those first weeks, birthday parties were booked two months ahead, and the studio was already planning programs with local Scout troops.
“Our focus is on imagining, creating, and playing.”
