Five minutes with Nandita, two years into Water Street
Two years after the doors opened, the Hingham Anchor asked Nandita the short questions: what the studio is now, why this town, and where she goes when she is not painting.

What the studio makes
Custom painted sneakers first, then totes, sports balls and jackets. Around them sits everything else the Anchor listed: art parties, moms' nights, after school sessions, summer camp, kids' fashion shows, team building and creative clubs, plus pop-ups around town.
“Everything we paint has a second life.”
That is the idea the whole studio is built on. What you make here goes home finished and gets used, worn to school, carried to the beach, played with in the driveway.
Why Hingham
She put it down to the people: a town that turns up for its own businesses and looks out for its neighbors.
“Hingham has such a strong sense of community.”

The best part of the job
Not the sneakers. The moment a child finishes painting their own pair and sees what they did. Her son Yuvraj, who was four when the piece ran, is a regular at the studio too.
